We renovated our master bathroom last year. Like many (most) remodel projects, it didn’t go smoothly. But in the end I got the thing I wanted most. A big steam shower, bathed in natural light, modern farmhouse chic, with a bench and a rain shower perfect for ritual decompressing and as it turns out, ideal for someone who had foot surgery and couldn’t stand on her own for 12 weeks. After the foot healed came the fun task of creating the perfect shower experience. Although still a work in progress, here is what I use for a five senses shower fit for the gods.
Scent: essential oils and shower steamers. Think lavender, peppermint and eucalyptus. Amazon has some great steamer tablets. Pop one on the floor under the water and add a couple of drops of oil. Heaven. You’re welcome.
Touch: water streaming down from a rain shower in the ceiling or coming out in a plethora of massage-esque ways from a wall mounted fixture. Soaps and scrubs. My favorites are anything Keihls, Fresh or Bliss.
Taste: lemon water, tea or wine. White whine… I mean wine. Champagne on Sundays.
Sight: dimmable lights and flameless candles by night. Natural sun by day. If cloudy, see night.
Sound: spa sounds on a shower Bluetooth speaker. Love me some Enya, Nora Jones or Vance Joy. Anything that mellows you out will do.
